Group Purpose and Meeting Information

ZFIG, The Zebrafish – Frog Interest Group, got its start in the 1980's as a local NIH–area focus group of labs using the African clawed frog Xenopus laevis as an experimental model system. By the early 2000's many of the member groups use zebrafish (Danio rerio), either exclusively or in addition to Xenopus. As of 2008 there are a total of fifteen labs in ZFIG, mostly from NIH but also from George Washington University and Georgetown University. ZFIG meets once a month year-round, usually on the last Monday of the month, at Noon – 1 PM. Currently we meet in Bldg 50 on the NIH campus, which is close to the Metro station, in the 5th floor conference room. One research group is featured each month, with either one or two talks, by Principal Investigators or Fellows. There is a wide range of interests represented by the labs, with a general focus on development, genetics and cancer. Anyone interested is welcome to join.
