My studies investigate the role of cellular metabolism on hepatocyte polarity using collagen sandwich culture of hepatocyte. The studies particularly focus on how LKB1 and its downstream kinase AMPK, a cellular metabolism sensor, as well as mitochondrial fusion regulate polarity in hepatocyte.
Figure: Canalicular network in fully polarized rat hepatocyte in collagen sandwich culture. Immunofluorescence was performed for apical marker, ABCB1 (red), and tight junction protein, occludin (green).
